Huawei deployed the second phase of the Philippine Submarine Fiber Optic Interconnection Project

Huawei Ocean Corporation announced the launch of its second phase of the Sorsogon-Samar Submarine Fiber Optic Interconnect Project (SSSFOIP) for the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).


The SSSFOIP system is located in the San Bernardino Strait and connects Sorsogon (the southernmost province of Luzon) to Samar Island. NGCP conducted a public bidding for the submarine cable project in 2016, and Huawei Huawei successfully won the bid. The first phase was completed in 2016.
The second phase of the project is to deploy a submarine cable with a design capacity of 12.8 Tbps, which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2018.
